Gas Pain

Two must reads at Daily Kos: 1 + 2.

You can already see what the GOP plan for saving their necks on this gas hike will be: blame the (liberal) environmentalists. It's the treehuggers fault, it has nothing to do with the bought-and-paid-for-by-oil administration. And lie with their favorite battlecry "the Democrats have no ideas." This allows them to do what they always do in crisis: rollback laws they don't agree with and paint the Democrats into a corner by assosciating them with environmentalists (or people taking your money) while falsely claiming that they are the party of the (giggle) people.

Example 1:

Today the president "temporarily suspended" environmental laws for gasoline. And to quote SusanG at Kos:

Any bets on how long a "temporary suspension" will last?
And is anyone else detecting a pattern here?
In the wake of Katrina, Bush
suspends prevailing wage laws.
In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush basically suspends the Fourth Amendment and, at Gitmo, the right to a fair trial.
There is no tragedy, crisis or concern in this country that will go unmet by this administration ... with a boon to cronies or a bolstering of executive power.

Example 2:

While the President watches his olil buddies get rich, the Democrats have been calling for change for years now. Look at the chart for example. This man and his lapdog Congress let these same oil companies write the energy bill and gave them over $14 billion in tax breaks that even oil CEO's said they didn't need. Now, as Josh Mrshall points out, the flip-flopper-in-chief is against those cuts that he was for since he was "elected" in 2000. You are paying for those cuts. Just as you are paying for the Exxon-Mobile CEO's $400 million golden parachute. (I am actually boycotting Exxon/Mobile, and I suggest you do the same.)

This has nothing to do with to much environmental laws, it has everything to do with too much corruption, too much collusion and too little real leadership from the President and his Congress.

Had enough?
